Bad eating habits are also to blame for excess fats and overweight among individuals which are not only unhealthy but can also cause low self-esteem.Mark Mattson, a renown neuroscientist must have seen this coming, and that is why he dedicated his entire life to an entirely new lifestyle that most people cannot bare with.; the fasting diet.
It is believed that, for the last 35 year, he has never taken breakfast or even lunch. He has a very tricky daily program where he spends the better part of the mid-afternoon doing exercises and then eating calories in a duration of six hours in the afternoon.
For you to have a success fasting diet program, it calls for a lot of commitment and making it your daily habit and your body will slowly adapt to. Dr. Muttson goes further and says that the normal diet of three meals a day is a habit that most people have been brought up doing and that is our system are used to it.
It is however not difficult to revert that habit to suit your personal preferences and objectives. Dr. Muttson is not the only person under such programs more celebrities are believed to have different fasting diet habit with the current revelation of the renown TV host Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy Kimmel is said that in the past two years, he had to start a fasting diet where he only eats in five days and does exercise in the remaining two days in a week, and that is the reason for his notable weight loss.
Where Did it all begin?
Dr. Muttson argues that fasting diet did not start yesterday, it is an activity that has been there since time immemorial. In fact, it dates back to the days of the Plato and Hippocrates. The human lifestyle has since then changed according to our environmental surrounding which forces different people from different places to survive in different means.
It is all about making forming a habit and lives by what is there, Dr. Muttson says. In fact, from different corners of the world, people are known for their religious beliefs though some people see it as an excellent opportunity to manage their weight and live a healthy life.
There has been a lot of research done on fasting diet most of which have had positive feedback. For instance, Valter Longo, a renown lecturer at the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California who used a mice to study the health impact of fasting program found out that at least two days of fasting in a month reduces the bio-markers for diabetes as well as cases of cancer and blood pressures. Since them, many types of research has been made to expand on that with current discovery being that it can be used for a slower aging process which is what everyone wants, nobody wants to be weak and helpless.
What are Some of the Critics surrounding the Concepts behind Fasting Diet?
Despite the various advantages that are believed to be achieved through the intermittent feeding habits discussed above, some scientist still argues that there are no sufficient grounds to prove that fasting can be used as a weight management strategy or to remain healthy. The reason being, you can not necessarily use an animal to base your recommendations on since animals and humans are different spices and have different modes of surviving. In fact, the current research indicates that the health benefits are deteriorating from such practices.
Body weight and fats management heavily depend on consumption of calories. Some researchers suggest that taking more calories when fasting is just the same as taking fewer calories when not fasting. However, there has been more research done do determine the actual impacts of the two scenarios. For instance, the research done by Dr. Muttson and the group in 2011 where their research was based on a group of humans with obesity. Half of them were subject to low-calorie diet while half were subject to intermittent fasting diet taking a lot of calories during their two days of fasting in their 5:2 program. From the findings in six months, both had lost weight, but those on intermittent fasting had lost more fats.
